High School Poetry II

I've got nothing new for you. Here is another composition of high school Latin poetry:

My Latin poem:

A pedibus usque ad caput
A mari usque ad mare
A mensa et thoro:
Ad vitam Paramus.

Ab ovo usque ad mala
Ad praesens ova cras pullis sunt meliora
Quod natura non sunt turpia;
Lusus naturae,
Lupus est homo homini.
Gorillae gorillae, gorillae gorilliae tractant.

Translation:

From feet to head
From sea to sea
From board and bed:
We are preparing for life.

From the egg to the apples
Eggs today are better than chickens tomorrow.
What is natural cannot be bad;
A freak of nature,
Man is wolf to man.
Gorillas are gorillas, therefore gorillas do gorillish things.

There is nothing more true than that last line... gorillas do gorillish things.

A sahib must act like a sahib - Orwell.

Have a great weekend Mr. Gorilla. Do lots of gorilla things and enjoy the bananas.

Mr Him, It is not often that I encounter such understanding from a human being. While I may write poems in Latin, cook gourmet vegetarian meals and sing "I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell" better than any other Elvis impersonator, at heart, I am a gorilla. I beat my chest and throw tantrums when I don't get my way.

"yeah, him" beat me to his first line. Gorillas DO do gorillish things. Especially with bananas and rum. ha ha. God bless the beast. AND you, too, Brad, you sweet (haven't quite gotten the "strikeout html yet, dangit so I mean...)gruff thing, you! VERY NICE. Makes me wish I had taken Latin like my parents HAD to do, then I might be able to understand a little further. You make me want to climb a building, or make banana creme brulee', I can't decide which.

P.S. Humans could learn a LOT from that...

Your grasp of Latin is amazing. You should consider teaching. If you can get your gruffness under control.

Bravo!

Oh Brad... you are my hero. No doubt.

Lady K: People remember you when you climb a building, but making a creme brulee is more satisfying. Also, there's more fire involved.

Nonny: I was a teacher, once. I will have to post about it sometime. The gruffness was extremely hard to keep under control, and in the end, I let loose.

Mr Pudding: Hey.

Monkey: Heroism is a task to which I ever endevor.

Latin is meant to becoming increasingly popular in the UK. I know one council office where it is taught to staff in their lunch hour just for the fun of it. You are a very clever gorilla.

Ellee: There should be more offices in which people learn Latin during the lunch hour. Then, perhaps we shall have more contemporary books published in Latin, filled with lively banter. As Alice (in Wonderland) said, "Quid adiuvat liber 'in quo sunt nullae tabulae aut sermones?"*

*Translation: And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations?
