Honk if You Speak Latin

Good morning, faithful readers. I have been quite busy in the past month. After the Latin professor at Mid-Central Community College accidentally slipped and cut himself on a butterknife, the dean called a number of people to substitute for the professor. When those people did not respond, the dean called me. I accepted. I am pleased to say that my students are learning Latin in ways they have never experienced before. The other day, we took a field trip around Seattle in order to bring Latin to the masses. That's right, we became Latin graffiti artists for the day! I'd read in the comments of Yorkshire Pudding's blog that Latin graffiti was a valid form of artistic expression, so I was sure that our efforts would be viewed in a proper historical context (whatever that means). We decided that our key phrase would be "Honk if you speak Latin"... in Latin! Here's what we accomplished before the cops arrived:

Space Needle

Fremont Troll

I was let out of jail this morning. Before I left, I made sure that history would remember me:

Monday morning, I need to go to Mid-Central Community College to see if I still have a job. Wish me luck! Ho ho.

I'm just glad you had to remove the graffiti as part of your community service. Honestly, Brad, no one messes with the Fremont Troll and gets away with it.

Does it mean... If only you could speak Latin? I took Latin for three years in high school but it made me stare out of the window and write poems. Very little stuck. Nice to know you have not been committed to an asylum for the insane after all!

What I particularly like about this, is that anyone who doesn't speak Latin wouldn't get it, and so couldn't know to honk!!

You're only going to get genuine Latin speaking honkers then.

Genius.

I, for one, don't speak Latin... I am an uneducated Yorkshire lad.... Yorkshire born, Yorkshire bred, strong in th'arm and weak in th'ead.

I feel a bit left out of the honking fun!!

ArcticFox: How can you be an uneducated Yorkshire lad with highfalutin' teachers like Mr Pudding to cram history and English into your skull? Personally, I think all of this "strong in th'arm and weak in th'ead" ruckus to be a red-herring. You're distracting us while you work on taking over the world. Help!

Thanks for coming by my blog, old chap.

Mr Pudding: How awful that Latin made you write poems! Did you write Latin poems? I did.

I realize that letting a cheeky talking ape be a substitute teacher may have seemed like a bad idea in the first place, for other obvious reasons. But the law of averages indicates that if you keep entrusting apes with delicate tasks, they'll eventually get it right at least once. So we should keep trying.

I've purchased my airline ticket and will be arriving shortly for my Latin Lessons. There is no one who can teach me here. Obviously, you are the chosen mentor.
